Pressure Exchanger for Energy Recovery in a Trans-Critical CO2 Refrigeration System

Trans-critical CO2 vapor compression (VC) refrigeration cycles require a high ratio, which is associated with expansion losses. To recover these losses, pressure exchange process between the low- and high-pressure sides of VC cycle proposed examined in this study. The system an open type constant volume where high- low-pressure flows mix inside system. This prototype inspired by exchangers used reverse-osmosis (RO) desalination systems. In system, 2D model was generated modeled using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) technique. numerical ignored any losses due to leakage or hydraulic friction considered adiabatic. For modeling, it assumed that inlet conditions for two exchanger are similar flow at evaporator gas cooler outlets cycle.
